Over the fall and winter of 2016/2017 the Bookshelf Cinema hosted a Movies and Talk series on the first Sunday morning of every month. The films were only announced once everyone was in their seat, and they were always followed by a thoughtful discussion with an expert from our community.
In April the cinema screened Ken Loach's new film I, Daniel Blake, about a man in his 50s who, after a serious heart attack, must navigate the British social services system to stay afloat as he takes time off work to recover from his health issues.
Elaine Weir, public health nurse and Bridges Out of Poverty facilitator came to speak to us about what it is like navigating the Canadian social services system.
